The Park County Extension office works in cooperation with county, town and volunteer initiatives to provide community education and assistance in five main areas: Agriculture, Horticulture, Family and Consumer Science, Natural Resources and 4-H Youth Programs.

Park County Apprentice and CMG Volunteer Opportunities

  • Weeding, checking on water, spot watering at Bailey Demonstration Garden
  • Plant ID of existing plants (summer activity) in Bailey Demonstration Garden
  • Survey of needs and ideas in the community around the development of a community greenhouse / garden space in Cohen park (Fairplay). CSU Extension is actively working with the Town of Fairplay over the next year (and beyond) to start developing a plan.
  • Leading gardening activities for outdoor education schools’ students, Boy’s & Girls Club, and others. 
  • Adding and maintaining plants at the garden beds and walking paths around the Quonset hut (Fairplay)
  • Fielding Horticulture-related questions that are received by the Park County Extension office and forwarded to the Apprentices and CMGs. 
  • Maintaining and editing the Horticulture FAQs of Park County Booklet
  • Helping to plan a small “banquet” gathering for all CMG volunteers in Park County in November 2026. 
  • Fundraising efforts for the Park County Master Gardener Program
  • Maintaining and assisting with the flower beds surrounding the County Courthouse (Fairplay).
  • Development of research-backed one-pagers on relevant gardening “How-to’s” or common plant or pest issues in Park County.
